LEARNING & BEHAVIORAL HEALTH, LLC
We are now offering tutoring services!
We are excited to announce dyslexia tutoring services at North Florida Learning in Jacksonville, FL!
We provide a multi-sensory, direct, explicit, and structured teaching method that is specifically designed to help students with dyslexia learn the way that is best for them and their unique strengths. Research has shown that the dyslexic reader is able to store and retrieve information best when it is presented in a multi-sensory format (incorporating as many senses as possible such as visual, auditory, tactile, and kinesthetic).
Dyslexia tutoring at North Florida Learning is for children and adolescents who have struggled to learn reading skills in the general classroom setting. We look forward to providing dyslexia tutoring to Jacksonville, Ponte Vedra, and other surrounding communities.
Frequently Asked Questions:
- Is dyslexia tutoring at North Florida Learning different from larger, "chain" tutoring centers?
Yes! We provide one-on-one evidence-based instruction based on the Orton-Gillingham approach. Our dyslexia tutoring services are designed to be intensive, focused interventions to help "retrain the brain" to use different pathways in order to learn to read. Larger tutoring centers have been known to utilize group methods, with less individualized attention. Additionally, the methods used at "chain" learning centers are not specific to the dyslexic reader.
- How often should my child receive dyslexia tutoring?
Instruction for dyslexia must be more intense and offer more practice than for regular readers. We recommend dyslexia tutoring at least twice a week for results. We have found that more frequent instruction produces greater results. Although dyslexia is lifelong, individuals with dyslexia frequently respond successfully to interventions that are both appropriate and implemented as soon as possible.
- Where is the tutoring conducted?
Dyslexia tutoring at North Florida Learning is available in our office or in your home, whichever is most convenient for you and your family. Prior to beginning the tutoring process, our psychologist will speak with you about your needs and collaboratively establish a plan that will work best for your child. You will then be scheduled with one of our highly qualified tutors to discuss an established day, time, and location for the tutoring sessions.
